For those who do not hold a HKID card and have not been to China before, they can only apply for the Single / Double Entry Visa. In other words, Multiple Entry Visa is only available for those who hold a HKID card and have a previous China Visa record at the same time to apply.
9 / 10 years Multiple Entry Visa is exceptionally available for Canadian / Israeli / US passport holder to apply.
For all the visa types above, the visa holder can stay in China for maximum 30 days upon each entry, except for 9 years and 10 years Multiple Entry Visa, each entry is not more than 60 days.

As per the new guideline by the China Embassy, if your current passport was issued after 1 January 2015, the previous passport is a MUST to be provided as your supporting document for the China Visa application. The application will not be approved by the China Embassy if such document is not provided.

Eligibility of visa application type (Ordinary or Express) mainly depends on nationality.
For the Ordinary Visa, the length of processing time mainly depends on nationality, previous China Visa record, etc.

For those who are eligible for the Express Visa application, they are also able to apply for the Ordinary Visa.
For those passport holders from Japan, Brunei or Singapore, they have exemption for applying the China Visa if they come for short-term business trip, visit, transit or tourism purpose, and stay for not more than 15 days.
Citizens from the countries like Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherland, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Serbia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, US, Uruguay, Venezuela are able to apply for the Express Visa with one-day pickup (subject to the individual’s background and final approval by the China Embassy).
According to a new visa policy by China, citizens from France are now eligible to apply for the one-day pickup Express Visa at a designated fee now. Please contact our specialists here for details and application.
If you hold a passport from some particular countries such as Africa, Middle East Countries, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Philippine, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, you will be able to pick up your China Visa in around 2 working days given that a previous record of China Visa issued by the Consulate outside mainland China can be provided, or you are a HKID card holder. Announced in August 2016, citizens from the above particular countries can also apply for the one-day pickup Express Visa at a designated fee, with the abovementioned documents provided.
